This is to make up for Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Every Tuesday, MPAC has Quran classes usually led by Dr. Maher Hathout. What once was a dreaded part of my week, has become a highlight. I find that I am finally understanding a book, which has ruled my life, in a different way.
I find that my beliefs are no longer wrapped in contempt of perceived strictness. I find myself looking forward to reading it in a different light, and seeing Islam in a more compassionate light.
Since Dr. Hathout became ill, other have taken over the class, and though they are fantastic, I miss having Dr. H.
If he never returns, I am thankful for three years of training and re-reading with the light of understanding and mercy.
This is to make up for Monday, Jan. 6.
There are not many words that can sum up how wonderful my coworker Grace is. Since joining my company, she has taken care of me in more ways than I can count.
On Monday, she surprised me again, by plopping a blood pressure cuff on my desk so that she could monitor my blood pressure. I made the mistake of telling her that it has been high and I am taking medication. With my recent head injury, the high blood pressure has become an issue again.
Grace has been keeping an eye on me, not only by monitoring it, but also by reminding me of ways to keep it down.
I wish everyone had a Grace in their office.
This is to make up for Sunday, Jan. 5
That day, I was able to gather with my NewGround cohort for a casual brunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. With fantastic weather and great food, everyone was in great spirits.
I was not in the best of moods and avoided major conversations the whole day; however, I appreciate that there are this many people around me filled with joy, and who I can approach if I am not in the best state of mind.
Though the fellowship has been trying at times, I am thankful to have met all of these Jews and Muslims.
This photo may be hard to understand; however, this is a box my aunt mailed to me of an outfit I plan to wear for my friend’s upcoming wedding.
This reminds me of the love my mother has for me and my sister. She works and works and works to save money to buy us beautiful outfits to wear at weddings. This is just one outfit of the hundreds she has purchased in my lifetime.
The second picture is what the outfit will look like. These are most of my girl cousins at my cousin’s wedding. The outfit is called a Khala Dupata, and it is a Hyderbadi outfit.
Here is some history about this outfit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khara_Dupatta
For the past few months (OK, many months) my Fast Fwd button has been hard to use. It’s be worn down so much that it now looks like I’ve clawed away at it.
In an effort to finally get a new remote, I put this in my car, and then, of course, didn’t get a new one and, subsequently, forget it in my car.
For one evening, sans remote, I was reminded how thankful I am for these little devices. They’ve helped to make my obsession with TV easier, and they allow me to multitask.
I really need to get a new remote, and in the mean time, I will still gladly use this device because one bad button doesn’t mean the rest of the buttons are not excellent.
What I was watching when I took the pic: “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I..E.L.D” http://imdb.to/1e5d7Ff
What I was watching when I wrote this post: “Dracula” http://imdb.to/19Hm1Mo
I didn’t get a chance to post this yesterday, but I am so thankful to have met these three individuals. Their care for each member of NewGround is phenomenal.
Words cannot explain how thankful I am to have people in my life I can go to for constructive criticism, and who will actually provide it back.
I encourage all Muslims and Jews in LA to apply for this Fellowship; it will change your life.
I am thankful for Mia, my beautiful cat of seven years. I brought her into my life as a companion for Syrus, and since his departure, she has become a companion to me. She is my constant companion, and I love that she trusts me enough to sleep on me when I am not aware.
I am looking for the next 7 years we have together.
With Al Jazeera America set to launch on Aug. 20, what does this mean for Al Jazeera English? Well, it’s now official - looks like AJE will be coming off the airwaves and AJA takes over.
In light of the horrible reporting by so many networks recently, I am looking forward to seeing what AJA will be like and how hard-hitting it will keep its standards. They’ve brought on a ton of CNN’s best and brightest, as well as rising gems in the media industry.
I guess all I can say is let’s see what happens on Aug. 20.
'Nine' the Musical - One of Guido's Girls
Last night I saw a local LA production of “Nine.” I have to admit that I have not seen the musical or watched the movie. I walked in a complete “Nine” virgin. I liked it a lot, and could see how it would be fun. This is saying a lot for someone who is sucker for musicals.
I think last night’s cast needs to rehearse more; however, they were all good singers. I came home and watched the movie, and I am more in love with it than I was last night. The casting was perfect. What can beat having all of these impressive women on one stage. Three of cinemas greatest beauties are in this movie - Penelope, Marion and Nicki. wow!
Rob Marshall must have had so much fun directing this and trying to bring the musical to the big screen - no easy task. And he really did make me feel as if I was in 1960’s Italy.
Crossing mediums fascinates me because you are only limited by your mind.
My childhood dream was to be a Broadway singer and dancer ... if I could only sing…
Thank you, AG, for turning me on to this commercial. I love that she also bought a T-shirt from the company.
So AS sent this to me and thinks it’s the best new app. I can see why it would be very important for a straight guy, and honestly, I am not that offended by it.
i didn’t explore it that far. Please do and report back.
And they have free hot water!
Why won’t he help me find Missy!
Ever wondered about the origins of some of our biggest pop culture shows and characters? Here are seven of them for you.
But if Gilligan’s Island represents the 7 Deadly Sins, what is Maryanne supposed to represent?
